A Rose is not a Rat: Stories to heal the world. Ruth Steinberg with Chai For All

Cotham Club at Cotham Parish Church, Cotham Road, Bristol BS6 6DR

Ruth Steinberg is a story weaver, bringing together stories from her Jewish culture, the life of her family and her husband. Using personal stories, folktales and Yiddish songs, she takes you on a journey that will make you laugh and cry.
Ruth was born a Jewish Geordie in 1952 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Some say she is a clown, a storyteller, a musician. She says she is passionate about using creativity to touch, transform and show the absurdities we live in and with.

'Storyteller Ruth Steinberg weaves words and stories together to create a translucent textile through which we can glimpse extraordinary things.' Lifelore Institute Wimbledon.

Chai For All (Hebrew chai ‘life’) is a multinational, multilingual ensemble touring middle eastern and Jewish music sets and music & spoken word performances both nationally and internationally. Its concerts celebrate the rich Yiddish song and klezmer wedding and dance traditions. Its two most recent music and storytelling shows explored the 1917 Balfour Declaration that led to the creation of the State of Israel (Longing, Belonging & Balfour), and the Palestinians' connection to their land (Our Homeland Lives in Us: Longing, Belonging & Palestine).

‘Energetic and exciting, Chai For All combine klezmer, Yiddish folk and jazz throughout their music. Making one fierce brew as a result. It’s emotive, soulful and unlike anything you’ll ever see.’ Bristol24/7
